This happens more than you think.  We just don't hear about it much in Patriot League basketball.

Do you know of any other PL scholarship players who have done this?    I cannot think of any.

I have to agree with Bison on this. I can't think of any Div 1 freshman scholarship player that has done this. Injuries yes, red shirting yes, quitting no!!

It has been stated here more than once that if Fran can recruit one kid per year "with game" and fill in around those 3 or 4 (depending on attrition) kids, we'd have an actual team.  Last year Willen was the recruit "with game."  Everyone has been assuming that this year's freshman class is a void in that respect but now you are throwing Giese out there as maybe making it two in a row for our recruiting wizards.  Any hope that this is not just more smoke and mirrors?[/quote]

I certainly hope that Johnson has "some game" since we have no point guard!

You guys are kidding right?????  18 year olds change their minds all the time.  They get away from home out of their comfort zone, get cold feet, see they are no longer the best on the field, etc.  It happens.  I graduated with guy who transfered from Maryland (football).  Quit the team his freshman year and transfered to Lafayette for the academics.  We thought we got a stud but he just wanted to be a doctor and never played football again.  I hear he is a damn fine one now.

Kids get to school and things happen.  I'm not letting anyone off the hook, Fran or Daalmen.  but it happens.  Like I said in my original post (which none of you read), you don't see it often in the Patriot League.

Back to basketball.

Not blaming anyone, not pointing fingers or anything, Just scratching my head as to why this seems to happen to us? We seem to have more than our share of this stuff. Kids transfer out, go back to Sweden, don't want to play ball anymore????? Confused

Exactly!!! But this is worse. The guy quits before even stepping on the court.....after getting a full ride!!! Geez! That is 50 k that could have been used somewhere else in the department!!!

Itdoes happen, look at Lehigh couple of years back we had a couple of small forwards from Canada I think in back to back years that came and left w/o suiting up once.

Does this have something to do with the our assistant coaches revolving door?

The one scholarship SF from Canada that I recall was Greg Page, but he suited up for two years.    After leaving the team, I believe he continued to attend LU and graduated.
