I like the way the team has approached this season, one championship game at a time. That mindset seems to be working for them pretty well. I hope they focus on beating Bucknell then after that Colgate, then Holy Cross and then lehigh.
While it's tough not to look ahead, Bucknell just got back their best receiver (Pasternik) who missed most of the first 5 games and the QB (Trigg) looks like he's 1000% better just by having Pasternik back on the field. Trigg is a tough guy who can run and pass pretty well.
I certainly agree LC should beat them, but games are played on fields not on paper and keeping focused on that week's opponent seems to me to be a smart and effective strategy for overcoming "trap games" and the like.
Go LC, beat Bucknell!! |

With a good enough GPI we could maybe avoid a first round game against a power CAA team if we win out somehow. Home game would be contingent upon our financial bid. |
We won't sniff a national ranking until and unless we beat Colgate. At that point I suspect we would be somewhere in the 20-25 realm. If we beat Holy Cross I suspect we would be in the 15-20 range. If we make the playoffs I doubt highly Lafayette would pony up the $$ needed for a home game...Best we pack our bags. As long as we are dreaming...assuming we would travel in the playoffs, what are the chances they might get a game in the Northeast. UNH, UMass...I'd love to go watch those. UNH would be awesome for me.
Of course I feel obliged to say none of this happens until we run the table. That starts with Bucknell. |
Nova and Richmond would also be high seeds if they do what is expected. The PL winner would be going to either Nova, Richmond, UNH, or UMASS it looks like. They like to avoid re-matches in the first round and most of those CAA teams would have played each other already. Also them seem to send the OVC or MEAC winner to the Southern schools like APP State or Elon, so they would probably go there. |
I can't stresss enough to the Football Gods how we all realize such talk is waaayyy premature as we have yet to really seperate ourselves from even last year's performance. There...that being said and well documented...I like your line of thinking FT. Assuming they avoid rematches I have a one in three chance of watching the Leopards play the Wildcats in Durham. HOWEVER...it's worth noting that UNH's stadium is a borderline high school facility. I think they may have lights but the list of ammentities end there. I guess they have hosted playoff games in the past but there is no way their facilities stack up against ours.
FT...what do you think the chances of hosting a game are if we were (BIG IF) to win the PL AQ? I know Tavani would bust a blood vessel if we didn't put in a bid to do so...not to mention Bouger. |
I am by no means an expert in playoff seating, but from what I understand they do tend to award home games to schools that have the ability to draw fans if possible. I think that was a big reason why Lehigh got home games in the past, especially in 2004 when they lost to us and then hosted eventual national champs JMU in the first round of the playoffs. Since Lehigh and Colgate have hosted playoff games in the past I see no reason why we cant. The Holy Cross fans seem to think they will be awarded a home game of the win out, and we can be in the same position it appears.
Someone said that you simply need to guarantee 50k for a home game. Basically that 50k would be put in upfront and and profits from ticket sales can then go toward that 50k investment. After selling a few tickets the cost may be the same as putting a team up in a hotel on short notice. |

Several CAA teams will make the playoffs so we will undoubtedly face one of them. My bet is on Villanova or HC at UNH/UMass. If we somehow win out and are ranked strongly enough, we might avoid Nova and likely play those NE teams. Or Delaware. Maybe the football stadium donors set aside money for a playoff game? But whatever, we are a better road team anyway.
I think the only way UNH gets a home game is if they are seeded due to their small stadium size. So I guess UMass is a more likely destination in NE. |

Alright alright...the Football Gods are getting pissed...I can feel it. All talk of playoffs need to cease and desist right now. Carney, do you have an extra chicken claw I can wear around my neck for the next couple of days? We need to appease the Gods. _________________ Pard94 |

Oh come on, this is Lafayette football... something wacky and illogical is bound to happen to our season... then again that sounds like winning too. Healthy players is probably our biggest obstacle, along with HC and Colgate. They can capitalize on our flaws... namely Randolph (a mobile QB who can throw accurately and to the middle of the field and sidelines). |

Only the top 4 seeds - and only 4 teams are seeded, so 1 does not play "16" - get "awarded" home games. The other 4 first round games are purchased. The school makes a bid to the NCAA, bearing in mind the NCAA guaranteed minimum (it used to be $30,000, but who knows...). This explains why Delaware and Montana, two schools with large stadiums and guaranteed sellouts, always - ALWAYS - get home games.
Best bet is that, given the economic climate, Lafayette would not take the risk and submit a bid. A "crowd" of 5-6,000 would be a disaster. That means pack up, it's a road trip. |

We are averaging 7812 fans through four games. Our last game had only 6600 (fair weather fans!) Add 2000 to the total (comparable to last two years) and we'd be averaging 8300 through four. I'll assume 12000 will show combined, so our season total will likely be 7200 per game. Not enough to convince the committee.
Of course if we had Lehigh, we could "cook the books" to 8700 fans. |

It has been unfortunate that every home game this year has been either played in the rain or under the threat of rain (enough to keep people away even if it doesn't end up raining). I have no doubt the numbers are well skewed because of this. _________________ Pard94 |
