Oh, I came to that conclusion with you a while back.  I'm not too impressed with the "committee."  While Smalley doesn't appear to have the wiggle, the hips, the flowing style of a Mo White or an Mputu (I never saw Marsh), he sure is fast and looks capable as a receiver out of the backfield.  With the developments this spring, maybe they go back to their original thought re Smalley, that being as a RB. Just wondering.

Really puts a further emphasis on a recruiting focus for that area in upcoming class and re-exposes how we missed out with the current class.  The committee - be it good or bad - is almost exclusively seniors after Ross.

Frank downplayed the lack of a RB recruit this year (although he said several were offered) in part because both Hebron and #33 have med-redshirts coming.

Certainly agree, seen, that RB a priority. Maybe THE priority.

Forgot about the medical redshirts - that puts it in a slightly less grave condition relative to bodies.  Still not a ton of proven depth.  Hope Pat can pull it together for his own sake - football aside.

The only real hope for the backups might be Irving.  We really haven't seen enough of him to know what he has to offer.

I'm wondering if the loss of Mputu and the emergence of Roberts at CB might have Frank reconsidering the move of incoming recruit Matt Smalley from RB to CB. He rushed for just shy of 1000 yds as a HS sr and recently repeated as Philly Catholic League champ in the 100 & 200m.

5'10, 175, did not blow the top off the record books in high school, and the coaches moved him to DB before he set foot on campus. Do you really think we're talking about Erik Marsh II here? How much difference can it possibly make other than increasing the total number of tailbacks from 5 to 6? Face it, with Mputu gone, we're looking at Scheuerman and a lot of average.

Carney, I thought I would dig this up for a dig..A lot of average Smile
