Excellent game for the Leopards. They looked poised and confident as Temple tried everything to crack our defense. This team is starting to come together. Next Lock Haven then Penn at home!! |

I watched todays Field Hockey game with Drexel before making my way over to the mens soccer game.
First of all, we lost 2-1. I'm certainly no expert on the game but to my eyes, Drexel had better players - both quicker and better at handling the ball with their sticks.
I was surprised that Drexel had 5 girls from the Lehigh Valley. I never understood why we don't recruit from our own backyard we have some very good teams - can you say Emmaus?
One other thing, they have to replace the sports information guy or student who does the announcing. He had a script to read and mispronounced half the words as well as half the players names during the introductions, including the Lafayette players. It was like a high school game.
We hire a guy to rebuild the program then send a clown out to announce it???? |

The "clown" was Bill Rappolt who paid for the rebuilding of the program and they asked him to do it. The sound system has a built in 1/2 sec delay which makes it difficult to hear and pronounce the names. At least we are hearing substitutions, stats, and some emotion for the players. He is a fraternity brother of mine and I'll point out your critique. I'm sure it'll keep him awake a nights.
We have not been able to recruit from Emmaus because their coach wants to see her players at UNC, Maryland etc. But as the program progresses I am confident Andrew will attract the best in the area.
You obviously didn't stay for the second half where we played better had more shots, and more penalty cornors. I think Drexel is ranked 24th th in the country and that was a winnable game. It went to a penalty corner on the last play.
A week ago we beat nationally ranked Temple and went to double overtime with nbr 17 Rutgers. In a week and half we play nbr 11 Penn State. Andrew has gotten verbals for his 2009 class and is starting to work on 2010. |

Just a little post script, Found out from Bill tonight the announcing gig was part of a fundraiser. I think he said a 1.000 and you can announce a game. There will be another person doing it next sunday. If you want to do it he'll take your check at Friends of Field Hockey, Lafayette College, Development Office Markle Hall, Eaton,Pa. 18042. Clown suit not included!! |
