The ladies took down the 'Saders behind a career high 25 (I think) by Gumbs! We played superbly - considering how we normally do in Worcester.

Yeah! Happy bus ride back. Feinstein - "Break up the lady Leopards!" Nobody likes a wise guy, John. Way to go Pards!

Neither team has the stats posted yet, but no need to analyze. A win is a win!

Just looking at the stats now. It looks like we didn't force or settle for too many threes (and hit the ones we took), crashed the boards, limited turnovers and got to the stripe. I'll let somebody who watched the game comment on the quality of the officiating that led to the Leopards taking 32 free throws compared to the Crusaders' 8.

Obviously, these are not all things that we'll be talented enough to do effectively against every team we play, but it looks like we played good fundamental basketball. That's just as encouraging as the win itself.

I am biased, of course, but I did not think the officiating was that bad / in our favor.  HC played a bit of the foul game at the end which led to some of the disparity.

HC had one of their regular contributors out, but they did beat league-leading Bucknell on Saturday before losing to us - go figure.

Real team win.  Short bench, but those who came in really contributed, especially Hood (9 points in 10 minutes).  We were 45% from the field and we got the ball to the rim, where we are always better.

Gumbs was great in the offensive end.  But she still needs to get better on defense.  She has too many James Harden-like moments, but if that keeps her out of foul trouble, maybe it's worth it?  We gave up 70 points.  If we keep scoring 85, it won't matter, but our average is still 53.

The girls really deserved a win.  Very happy for them.  Something to build on.

Big win.  Congrats to all - especially the players and coaches.

I didn't see us getting a lot of cheap breaks from the officials - and neither did the HC announcers who bludgeoned a few names but were overall very good. HC was content to shoot from outside (which most teams would be if they were hitting 50% of their 3's) and the 'Saders didn't defend the post very well - picking up a lot of fouls. Holy Cross kept hitting threes to stay in the game and I think all of us had that "here we go again" sinking feeling in our stomach but the girls really responded well.

Gumbs was ROLLING in the first half so coach Grentz kept the train going but it's noteworthy that in terms of minutes the two seniors led the way and I think reasonable people can wonder why we didn't try and bring the frosh along at a reasonable pace rather than having them flounder as they did certain times this year. Lutz (a double double) and Ottewill-Soulsby (15/6) were leaders through and through out there.

What stuck out - obviously - was how well we shot the ball. That starts with good ball movement, we were definitely taking good shots. But as we all know, this team has missed a LOT of "good" shots - not on Wednesday. Maybe whatever they're doing in practice is starting to pay off.

Now that the weight of the losing streak is off their shoulders I hope they can find a way to pull out a couple more W's.

Bill Gibbons' postgame comments: http://www.goholycross.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=5947213

Sort of condescending but not wholly inaccurate. I get what he was trying to say with the "rather play a team that won 20 straight than lost 20 straight" thing.
