Verbal Commits says he's going to East Mississippi Community College. Ideally at some point in this peculiar basketball odyssey the tall young man will get some time on a court.

On Wed Apr 22, 2015 6:53 pm I predicted Sam Dunkum would be Jake Kreuser 2.0.  Looks like that is how it is trending.

I believe Kreuser had a family medical situation. Not sure what Mr. Dunkum is doing.

Both Dunkum and Kreuser suffered from Non-Division I player-itis.

Luckily they were diagnosed in time. Barlow too. So many others endure that illness for four years without relief. Perhaps there's something in Kirby that spreads it.

Is it "Last Chance U" in basketball too? Too bad Ms. Brittany left - she was a cutie!

As a big fan of the Netflix series I have to say it's somewhat embarrassing that we had anything to do with an athlete that wound up there.

It's a LONG fall from a Patriot League scholarship to East Mississippi.

You're right. Why even bother recruiting guys that aren't as good as one of the best players in Patriot League history?

I'll look up the show, never heard of it.
As for Eastern Mississippi CC, it's often been called the Harvard of eastern Mississippi.
The Dunkum saga is, in an era of peculiar stories, one for the ages.
For the tall young man, I hope this is "Light in August" for him in the Magolia State, away from "The Sound and the Fury" of Easton.

ALRIGHT! I will stop but Faulkner is the only good thing I can think of from Mississippi. Oh yeah: HUGH FREEZE. He's been worth some entertainment.

I just looked briefly at their basketball site and it's safe to say the team is nowhere near the caliber of their football team.

The football team basically gets big-time players who have screwed up big time - the best cases have had academic trouble, the worst, legal problems. The show is good television for many reasons - including the fact that the coach feels intense pressure to win despite having one hell of a resume.

After you watch one episode of the show you'll wonder how anyone who got into Lafayette could wind up there.

It's a fair analogy...If you look back on the "Sam Dunkum commits" thread a few years ago there were some who mentioned him in the same breath as Muscala.

Nobody other than a couple guys on this board ever called him more than a worthwhile project player or a big guy with upside. And Mike Muscala was already an NBA First Rounder at that point: http://lafayettesports.myfreeforu...out2951.html&highlight=dunkum

At best, Dunkum is our own version Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner... a guy saddled with an unfair comparison before he ever did squat on the court.

emccbookstore.com keeps crashing and when I can get through, everything that's in my size (and cheap) is sold out.
It's the Dunkum effect! I'll have to wait for my EMCC official gear.
LeGarrette Blount played football there and the school has sent kids to D1 basketball.
Go Lions!

Was he given a $60,000/yr scholarship?

Regarding LC recruiting at the C position: have you heard of Nielsen, Leszcynski, Koltun, Pelham (loved his enthusiasm, seemed like a great teammate), Daaleman, Kreuser? You're familiar with Dunkum (who seemed to take a back handed slap at his former teammates after leaving per the article previously posted). Point is - can we do better? Loved watching the development of Mintz and Dan. I'm a supporter of Fran and always will be, just think we can do better recruiting wise. This year BTW close to 30 offers made, seems renewed vigor.

If so, that was only based on his height.   It was pretty clear back then that he was a project who wouldn't be a contributor for a couple of years at  best.

And I repeat....

It always make me chuckle that schools will fall over backwards to hand a kid a quarter of a million dollars, all because he is genetically blessed to be extremely tall!

Which was my point - league member gets McNaughton, Muscala, etc, and we get projects. Rather consistently.
