In a message sent out to all faculty this week it was announced the college is hiring Rankin and Assc to do a study on the racial climate at the college! How much is this costing??Didn't we hire an expert to be our diversity dean? Why do we need to hire an outside expert to tell her what needs to be done? We either need her or the consultant.  This was not the time to hire consultants to tell us what we should already know!

Truly pathetic.  Talk about taking your eye off the ball!!  I suppose it is a matter of time before Colgate does it as well. JEEZ.

Terrible... why is this necessary? Why do you need to do a study? Have some student do a thesis... or better yet... get off your duff in Markle and walk around campus and talk to people.

Non White People - Not so much

This is pretty funny.  The College has been "studying" this issue ever since 1968.   All they have to do is listen to their alumni of color and students who have transfered.

I have to become a consultant when I grow up......

Whats more troubling here is that the newly hired dean hasn't the confidence to have an opinion - going to "ole" on that and let the consultant deliver the obvious message.  As Lafalum implied, thats pretty sad.

I understand a study must be done in the sense that you must have a starting point and from there one can create goals and show progress toward these goals.

However, I believe this new dean should commission this study.  Yes its a bit questionable creating your own data to mesaure progress, but 3rd party studies are an un-needed luxury and expense at this point.

It is flat out unacceptable that is a time of cost cutting this is considered a paramount project.
